Accessible programs

Moonee Valley Gymnastics Club is determined to make gymnastics accessible for everyone. We are an inclusive club that welcomes everyone with a passion for gymnastics.

We offer accessible programs for children and adults of various intellectual and physical abilities who want to participate in gymnastics. We can even look to assist in a 1:1 accessible gymnastics programs.

Our gymnastics centre is equipped with safe and accessible-friendly equipment and facilities including balance beams, bars, rings, trampolines and a sprung floor.

Children who participate in gymnastics will benefit from:

Program types

  • Special Olympics Young Athletes program

    Special Olympics Young Athletes is an inclusive program that develops the fundamental movement skills of two to eight year olds with and without an intellectual disability. The program focuses on play-based activities that support social and physical growth and aims to creates greater access and opportunities for participating children. Thanks to Special Olympics Australia, we are able to provide a discounted price for this program.

    Special Olympics Young Athletes includes:

    • weekly training sessions led by a trained head coach;
    • individualisation of activities to meet the child’s skill level through modification, adaption or extension;
    • focus on fundamental skills of sport (multi-sport gross motor skills, social skills of sport, health and fitness);
    • opportunity to progress onto various Special Olympics sports and National Sporting Organisation pathway through weekly sports and competitions.

    All participants will also receive a Young Athletes t-shirt.

    • Dates: Term 2 runs Saturday 07 May 2022 – Saturday 25 June 2022 (six sessions, no sessions on Queen’s Birthday)
    • Class time: 1:00pm – 1:45pm Saturdays (45-minute class duration)

    Please note that classes are limited to 10 spaces per program. Parental or carer engagement is a requirement for this program.

  • ‘You Can Do It Too’ gymnastics

    The ‘You Can Do It Too’ program is an initial 21-week program and will focus on delivering a specifically-tailored all abilities gymnastics program. This will aid participants with disabilities and other challenges to develop fundamental life and movement skills. Thanks to funding through Moonee Valley City Council, this program is being delivered free of charge to participants.

    The program is delivered in a fun and safe environment, using a variety of specialised equipment that is focused on making participating less confronting, less demanding and safe. Participants will be stimulated through interactive gymnastics based activities that are significant for both mental and physical growth, help improve participants gross motor skills, strength, fitness, balance and coordination.

    Along with developing physical attributes participants will build and fostering positive relationships and connections with one another, parents/carers and coaches. We seek to empower the participants in a supported environment to build confidence and to help them recognise that there is no limit to their ability, which we believe is crucial for their all-round development.

    All our staff have completed Special Olympics Australia training with a focus on creating a safe inclusive environment. We can even connect you through to Melbourne West Special Olympics to participate in structured competitions.

    • Class times: 1:45pm – 2:30pm Saturdays (45-minute class duration)
    • Ages groups:
      • 8-14 years
      • 15+ years
    • Price: Free for participants. Must register for full program.

    Please note that classes are limited to 10 spaces per program. Parents or carers are encouraged to be involved and take part in the program.
